Iceland is an island between Norway and Greenland. The island is elliptic, 500 kilometers long (East to West) and 360 kilometers wide (North to South).
It is a 100,000-square kilometer territory of pure heaven for nature lovers.
In this tour, we will see huge waterfalls, glaciers, snow lakes, geysers, thermal lakes and more breathtaking and unique nature phenomena.
Israeli passport holders are not required to have an entry visa for Iceland.
Day 1 (Sunday): Tel Aviv – Keflavík
We will take off from Ben-Gurion International Airport and fly to Iceland through Europe. We will land at Keflavík International Airport in Iceland. After landing, we will head towards our hotel.
Day 2 (Monday): The Southern Coast – Snowmobiles
In the morning, we will head southeast and hike on Iceland's southernmost cliffs. We will tour Skógafoss and Seljaland waterfalls. We will go up the glacier for an adventurous snowmobile ride. From here, we will continue eastward, to Vík cliffs, in Iceland's southern tip.
Day 3 (Tuesday): Skaftafell Nature Reserve – The Black Waterfall and Glacier Lake
We will depart for Skaftafell Glacier, Europe's biggest glacier. A walking trail will bring us to the Black Waterfall, a beautiful waterfall surrounded by basalt rocks. In the waterfall area, nature plays a live show of ice and fire, as the greatest glacier in Iceland and Europe nests at the lava-spewing heart of an active volcano. We will arrive at Jökulsárlón lake and board amphibious vehicles to sail among the icebergs, floating in the lake in an eerie and surreal winter atmosphere, right in the middle of summer…
Day 4 (Wednesday): Mt. Hekla – Myrdal Glacier
Today we will leave the Ring Road and our bus behind, to travel in off-road vehicles to the heart of the island, an uninhabited area, due to an active volcano (Mt. Hekla's last major eruption was in 1991). In our off-road vehicles, we will climb the basalt at the mountain's edge to reach Myrdal Glacier. On the way, we will see fresh volcanic landscapes and witness G-D's continuous Creation, from the times of Genesis until today.
Day 5 (Thursday): Reykjavík and the Golden Circle
Today we will explore Iceland's capital, Reykjavík (we may do this on our first day, depending on landing time). we will visit Perlan, the city's hot water reservoir that supplies water to 60% of Iceland's population. We will explore the city's landmarks and continue to Iceland's famous Golden Circle - Gullfoss Waterfalls, Thingvellir Park and Haukadalur Geysers. We will also visit the world's first parliament, founded in 930 A.D on the exact tectonic rift between the European and North American plates. We will travel to Gullfoss Waterfalls and the great Geyser basin, the name of the place used now to describe hot water erupting from the earth all around the world. We will witness the geyser in action.
Day 6 (Friday): Crossing the Island towards Mývatn Lake – Húsavík
We will head north and cross the island on Kjolur F35 dirt road. We will stop for lunch at a hut near the Hveravellir hot springs. From there, we will continue to road no. 1 and the northern capital, Akureyri, on our way to the town of Húsavík. On arrival, we will have several hours to organize for the late Shabbos dinner, an unforgettable Kiddush at the northernmost place on earth.
Day 7 (Saturday): Húsavík
A special Shabbat in the north. After prayer and Kiddush, we will walk to the port to watch the ships arriving from Greenland and the Arctic Sea. Then we will have our second Shabbos feast and continue our rest and relaxation.
Day 8 (Sunday): Jökulsá Canyon – Dettifoss Waterfalls – Mývatn Lake
We will explore the Jökulsá river canyon, along walking trails leading to Selfoss and Dettifoss waterfalls. We will continue towards Mývatn Lake and visit Dimmuborgir – a maze of rock formations, made of lava. We will see boiling mud and water pools, bubbling at our feet, vapor rising from the depths of earth into the air. This is the place where the Earth's crust is at its thinnest. This is a remarkable day, full of unforgettable sights, walking through nature's wonders.
Day 9 (Monday): Húsavík – Snæfellsnes
We will embark on a whale-watching mission (with some luck, we will be able to spot some impressive whales) and begin our way back to the western part of the island, to Snæfellsnes peninsula.
Day 10 (Tuesday): Reykjavík – Tel Aviv
We will spend our morning exploring Snæfellsnes peninsula, observing the majestic Snæfellsjökull volcano. We will walk along the cliffs and watch thousands of nesting birds.
We will continue to Reykjavík to continue touring the city, including the port area and the new cultural center, Harpa.
When we conclude our visit, we will leave for Keflavík International Airport and fly, through Europe, to Tel Aviv.
Day 11 (Wednesday): On board the flight to Tel Aviv
We will continue flying to Tel Aviv until arrival, on Wednesday morning.
